3 Ways To Know A Product is REALLY Natural
Many of us want products that are safer, simpler, and closer to nature but some products that claim to be, actually aren't.
Natural food, beauty, and home care products are getting more popular every day and while some of these products are truly natural and safe, many are not. Because there aren’t clear rules about what natural really is, here is a little checklist to help!
➞ Step 1. Read The Claim Carefully And Watch For Greenwashing
In the hectic pace of modern life, we don’t always have the time to read carefully, and some companies take advantage of that.
Some examples:
“contains essential oil” often means 1% essential oils and 99% synthetic petrochemicals
“nature identical” means synthetic chemicals made in a lab to replicate ones that occur in nature
➞ Step 2. Make Sure The Company is Transparent about ALL Ingredients
Unless the company is transparent about all the ingredients in a product, you can’t know for sure what’s in it and whether its natural. When ingredients are public, organizations like EWG (Environmental Working Group) can analyze the ingredients and verify that it is safe. It seems (and is often true) that companies who won’t share this information may have something to hide.
➞ Step 3. Make Sure The Product is 3rd Party Verified
Without clear rules, it is best not to trust but to verify. Look for brands that share reputable third-party tests to show that a product is plant-based or bio-based.
